Time for Brake Repair

Given the importance of brakes to your travel safety, it’s a best practice to have Wimmer’s Automotive check your brakes periodically. This should be done according to the manufacturer’s recommendation or annually unless you notice any warning signs that point to the need for immediate attention. One of the most frequently required repairs is brake pad replacement. Although made of metal composites and quite durable, the pads wear down with use. Once they reach the minimum safe thickness, you will likely begin to hear squealing as you apply brakes. Most manufacturers include tabs that become exposed once the metal is too worn, creating the sound that indicates the need for service. Another clue might be a burning smell. This might signal an emergency brake that was accidentally left engaged, or it could indicate a stuck brake caliper that’s causing the pad to engage with the rotor for prolonged periods of time. Furthermore, a soft, spongy brake pedal that sinks too far toward the floorboard suggests a brake fluid problem. Fluid is required for the hydraulic pressure that operates the braking system. If there’s not enough or there’s a break in the system such as a compromised hose or a cracked master cylinder, you may lose ability to stop. Finally, any increase in your stopping distance is reason for scheduling a visit. Our professional technicians can also assist you with brake upgrades such as installation or replacement of ceramic pads and other high performance components.
