Leslie Driver

“Leslie Driver, the voice of “Neon Highways” on KWIMM 89.9, was born and raised in San Luis Obispo, where she developed an early passion for punk rock and post-punk music. By the age of 17, Leslie had already started her own band, dreaming of hitting the road and taking the music scene by storm. Her rebellious spirit and love for raw, energetic sound defined her teenage years, as she spent countless hours writing songs, rehearsing with her bandmates, and planning her future on the stage.

But life had other plans for Leslie. During the summers, she worked at vineyards in North County, surrounded by the rolling hills and serene landscapes. It was in these quiet moments among the grapevines that Leslie began to appreciate the slower pace of life. The contrast between the intense, fast-paced world of punk rock and the peaceful, sun-soaked days in the vineyard planted a seed of change within her. By the time she turned 23, Leslie started to question the direction she was heading. The allure of the road and the stage was still there, but so was a growing desire for something different, something that blended her love for music with a more relaxed, reflective lifestyle.

That turning point came when Leslie was 27. A trip to a car show in Los Angeles introduced her to the vibrant world of “Vaporwave” and neon lights. The retro-futuristic aesthetic, the nostalgic yet futuristic soundscapes—it was a revelation. Leslie found herself captivated by the genre’s blend of old-school cool and modern vibes. It was as if she had found the perfect synthesis of her past passions and her new, more laid-back outlook on life.

Determined to explore this new passion, Leslie dove headfirst into the world of Vaporwave, curating playlists, immersing herself in the culture, and developing a deep understanding of the genre’s nuances. It wasn’t long before she found herself at KWIMM, ready to share her newfound love with the world.

“Neon Highways” became her platform, a radio show where Leslie takes listeners on a journey through the dreamy, neon-lit landscapes of Vaporwave and synth-driven sounds. Her show is a blend of music, nostalgia, and a deep appreciation for the aesthetics that captured her heart. For Leslie Driver, “Neon Highways” isn’t just a radio show—it’s the culmination of a journey from the raw energy of punk rock to the soothing, surreal world of Vaporwave. Tune in, and let Leslie guide you down the glowing roads of her musical passion.”
